The Learning Material
The production of electronic material requires a different type of work in terms of methodological and pedagogical preparation than that of traditional learning materials, mainly because of the differing learning process. Thus it is understandable that the work of authors having a basically pedagogical background is aided by multimedia experts and programmers. The script of the material or its basic texts can of course be prepared by the appointed experts of the company as well, but, if needed, learning content developing companies can also be commissioned to do so.
The phases of material-making:
- The exact determination of the target group of the educational material, assessment of their knowledge level, determination of the level to be achieved
- Selection of the type of the learning material, which can be
- Text-orientated (e-book)
- Multimedia-based – with audio-visual materials
- Interactive – with the application of animations and simulations
- Preparation of the script that forms the frame of the learning material (with the co-operation of the content-developing company)
- Determination of the source elements and production of partial elements
- assembling
- testing, launching of sample learning
Using the wide range of technical possibilities, in a given e-Learning material an enormous amount of learning can be amassed and systematically processed. The special editing mode, the articulation according to topics, the interactive and multimedia elements built into the material, the usage of pictures, sounds and videos can facilitate keeping students on task, the process of memorizing and can make the acquisition of the knowledge in the material easier and faster.
Special elements used in e-Learning materials:
- auxiliary materials: dictionary, chronological tables, glossary of concepts, picture and music gallery, anthologies etc.
- links (within chapters, chapters and teaching material parts, as well as between the core syllabus and the various auxiliary materials)
- pictures, multimedia elements: animations-moving pictures, simulations-case exercises, videos, audio materials
- notes and notes pages
- exercises and tests forming an organic part of the syllabus
The huge advantage of electronic contents is that they can be immediately updated on demand and tailored to specific target groups.
